Wednesday, November 29

Be the Match
5:30 p.m., Chambers Gymnasium
MHU Student Health Ambassadors will host awareness/registration events for the Be the Match national marrow donor program, which helps identify people who might be potential donors for those with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma. This event will be held in conjunction with the home game for women's basketball.

Bobby McMillon Legacy Project
7-8:30 p.m., Owen Theatre
Celebration of the Bobby McMillon Legacy Project at Mars Hill University's Southern Appalachian Archives. This project, funded in part by South Arts, preserves and makes accessible the collections of the legendary Bobby McMillon (1951-2021), who was an extraordinary ballad-singer, storyteller, and folklorist. The audience will learn more about McMillon and the project, and will hear performances and reminiscences from McMillon's dear friends Rodney Sutton and William Ritter, as well as special guests Melanie Rice and Donna Ray Norton. The event is free and open to the public.

Mind^2 Night
7-8 p.m., Wall Science Building, Rm. 318
Join the PSY302 class as students present what they have learned about how the brain works and impacts our lives as part of MIND^2 (MHU Investigates Neural Diseases & Disorders). On display will be several human brain specimens for you to hold and learn more about. Trigger warning: there will be actual human brains on display.

MHU Bookstore Moonlight Madness Sale
4-8 p.m., Day Hall
Mars Hill University Bookstore holds its annual moonlight madness sale in conjunction with the university and town kickoff of the holiday season.

Caroling
5-6 p.m., Gazebo at corner of Main Street and NC 213
Gathering to sing carols as part of the university and town kickoff of the holiday season.

Museum Open for Cocoa and Cookies
5-8 p.m., MHU Museum in Montague Hall
The museum will be open for those coming to campus for First Friday and the university and town kickoff of the holiday season. The current exhibit is River Cane Renaissance.

Tree-Lighting Ceremony
5:30-5;45 p.m., Lunsford Commons/Upper Quad
Join us for caroling, reading The Night Before Christmas, and the lighting of the trees outside Marshbanks Hall.

Town of Mars Hill Christmas Parade
6-8 p.m., N. Main Street and NC 213
The Town of Mars Hill will hold its Christmas parade at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023. The parade route begins at the intersection of N. Main St. and Bruce Rd., proceeds down Main St. to make a right turn on N.C. 213, then turns right on Athletic St., where the parade ends.

Saturday, December 2

Senior Visit Day
9:15 a.m.-1 p.m., Ferguson Math & Science Center and Wren Student Union
Prospective students will visit campus to learn more about what it's like to be a student at Mars Hill University. Students will have the opportunity to hear about life at Mars Hill from current students and ask questions about their experiences. Family and friends will have the opportunity to hear from various representatives across campus and ask questions one-on-one. Prospective students and their families are invited to attend, with free admission, the women's and men's basketball games in the afternoon.

Department of Music Holiday Concert
7:30 p.m., Moore Auditorium
The MHU music department will hold its annual holiday concert, including an opportunity for guests to join with singing of the Hallelujah Chorus at the end of the concert. Admission to the concert is free. Those wishing to sing with the choir should register at www.mhu.edu/hallelujah-chorus.

Tuesday, December 5

Common Ground
11 a.m., Broyhill Chapel
Lessons and Carols. Common Ground is the Center for Religious and Spiritual Life's weekly offering for all MHU students, faculty, and staff. Common Ground is recognized as a place where faith/spirituality and reason come together. We believe that faith and reason are compatible with one another, not two separate and distinct parts. We also believe that Common Ground can and should be found among the various faith and non-faith traditions. Common Ground programs are held at 11 a.m. in Broyhill Chapel each Tuesday classes are in session (unless otherwise noted).

Puppy Day
12-5 p.m., Bentley Fellowship Hall
Students and staff may purchase "puppy time" with a puppy for $3 for 15 minutes and $5 for 30 minutes. This event helps relieve student stress just before exams, helps socialize rescued puppies for easier adoptions, and raises funds for rescue organizations in Madison County.

Fiddling On the Hill
5-7 p.m., Spilman Hall or Lunsford Commons (weather dependent)
Monthly jam session of traditional old-time music.

Late Night Breakfast
8-10 p.m., Pittman Dining Hall
Faculty and staff members serve breakfast foods for students during this annual tradition on the evening before final exams begin.
