True North
11 a.m., Broyhill Chapel
Weekly chapel service for the MHU community. Speaker: Rev. Tambi Brown Swiney. In Nashville, she served as chaplain for The Next Door, an addiction treatment and recovery center for women. Now she has moved to Asheville, and is serving in a variety of roles, including as a speaker, writer, and spiritual companion. She'll be speaking on faith as a source of courage.

Wednesday, February 12

Pete Candler Exhibit Opens
10 a.m.-4 p.m., Weizenblatt Gallery (Moore Fine Arts Building)
Weizenblatt Gallery will showcase Asheville photographer Pete Candler's work in the "A Realism of Absences" exhibition. Mr Candler works in black and white film photography as well as words on a page, documenting his travels in the American South over the past 25 years. He looks for the cracks in the accepted versions of American history. Within the cracks, he finds a richer and fuller version of this country's story. The exhibition will run from Wednesday, February 12, through Thursday, March 9. Hours are 10-4 Monday through Friday, closed weekends. Admission is always free.

Square Dance
7-9:30 p.m., The Loft (McConnell Hall)
Join us for a square dance in MHU's Loft with live old-time music! Absolutely no experience is necessary-first-timers are welcome and encouraged. The caller will tell you what to do! This dance is free and open to all-both on campus and community. A great way to unwind and be a part of an Appalachian tradition. Brought to you by the Ramsey Center for Appalachian Studies with support from the Madison County Tourism Development Authority.

Accepted Student Visit Day
9 a.m.-2 p.m., Ferguson Math & Science Center
Students who have been accepted to attend MHU in the fall will meet other accepted students, current students, admissions staff, and faculty and staff representatives from various academic departments and programs. They will have the opportunity for an interactive classroom experience to see what it's like to learn, collaborate, and connect with our outstanding professors.

Polar Plunge Supporting Madison County Special Olympics
2 p.m., Ammons Field House
Fundraiser for Madison County Special Olympics. Raffle prizes, chili cook-off, costume contest. Costs to participate: individual plunge participant: $20; individual plunge participant plus t-shirt: $50; chili chef: $20. Funds raised will provide year-round sports training, competition, leadership opportunities, and health services to Special Olympics athletes in our community.
