Weekly chapel service for the MHU community. At True North this week, you can hear from the mayors of Marshall and Hot Springs, along with other local leaders, about the ongoing efforts for relief and recovery after Helene-get updated information, show your support, and learn how you can still help.

Saturday, February 8

Choral Festival Concert
6 p.m., Moore Auditorium
Concluding concert for the 76th Mars Hill Choral Festival, featuring approximately 350 high school singers from across North Carolina. The students will have spent the day rehearsing under the tutelage of guest clinician Lisa Fredenburgh, director of choral activities at Aurora University. Students auditioned in the fall and those who were selected for the choral festival have been rehearsing in regional sessions at seven sites across the state. All students selected for the festival are automatically eligible for the MHU Presidential Music Scholarship, valued at $23,000 per year. The concert is free and open to the public.

Wednesday, February 12

Pete Candler Exhibit Opens
10 a.m.-4 p.m., Weizenblatt Gallery (Moore Fine Arts Building)
Weizenblatt Gallery will showcase Asheville photographer Pete Candler's work in the "A Realism of Absences" exhibition. Mr Candler works in black and white film photography as well as words on a page, documenting his travels in the American South over the past 25 years. He looks for the cracks in the accepted versions of American history. Within the cracks, he finds a richer and fuller version of this country's story. The exhibition will run from Wednesday, February 12, through Thursday, March 9. Hours are 10-4 Monday through Friday, closed weekends. Admission is always free.

Square Dance
7-9:30 p.m., The Loft (McConnell Hall)
Join us for a square dance in MHU's Loft with live old-time music! Absolutely no experience is necessary-first-timers are welcome and encouraged. The caller will tell you what to do! This dance is free and open to all-both on campus and community. A great way to unwind and be a part of an Appalachian tradition. Brought to you by the Ramsey Center for Appalachian Studies with support from the Madison County Tourism Development Authority.
