Mars Hill University Esports Player Signs With Miami Heretics of Call of Duty League
Mars Hill, NC (09/24/2025) — A former Mars Hill University esports athlete has turned pro, signing earlier this month with the Miami Heretics of the Call of Duty League. Nicolas Monaco, known in competition as Traix, enrolled at Mars Hill last January and competed for the university's esports team this spring.
Monaco, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, becomes the first South American player to compete in the Call of Duty League. After completing the spring college season, he competed with the team FiveFears, taking a top-four finish at the Miami Open, then joined team Stallions for the summer, finishing top 7/8 at the Call of Duty Challengers Finals.
"I am incredibly proud of Nico and what he has accomplished," said Jamie Nickell, the MHU esports program director. "His dedication, skill, and leadership was integral to our program's success this past season, and we are thrilled to see him take the next step into the professional arena."
During his time at Mars Hill, Traix made an impact both in and out of competition, Nickell said. His commitment to his teammates, passion for the game, and determination to excel at the highest levels of play have positioned him as a role model for current and future student-athletes in the esports program.
