Mars Hill University Names New Trustees

Mars Hill, NC (01/31/2022) — Three new members and one previous member joined Mars Hill University's board of trustees in January.

• Jeff Miles of Rabun Gap, Georgia. Miles is a member of the Mars Hill class of 2001 and a former member of the university's board of advisors. He is the first men's lacrosse player inducted into the university's athletics Hall of Fame. Miles scored the first goal in the program's history, and was the first player to score 100 goals. He coached lacrosse and was assistant headmaster at Christ School in Arden, North Carolina. He led the Greenies to three state championships and twice was North Carolina Coach of the Year. Miles currently serves as head of school at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School.
• Paul Powell of Greensboro, North Carolina. Powell is vice president and general manager of American Premium Beverage. He received his undergraduate degree at Mars Hill in 1979 and then earned his law degree at Wake Forest University. He served on Mars Hill's board of advisors before moving to the trustee board.
• Anna Renfro of Gastonia, North Carolina. Renfro is a member of the class of 1979 and is immediate past-chair of the board of advisors. She is a former assistant superintendent, principal, teacher, and administrator who retired from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. She now provides regional leadership for virtual instruction for the South Carolina Department of Education.

Returning to the board following a required one-year break in active service is A.C. Honeycutt of Mars Hill, North Carolina. Honeycutt graduated from Mars Hill in 1975 and is a retired vice president of First Citizens Bank in Asheville. He and his wife, Susie, started the Fields of Hope farming and gardening project focused on fighting hunger in Western North Carolina, and also help lead a ministry which builds homes and distributes food and clothing in Honduras.

The board of trustees is Mars Hill University's governing body and administers the budget, major policy decisions, and other major matters of university business. The president runs day-to-day operations and serves as the official liaison between the university and the board. The board comprises 34 members serving staggered terms.
