Mars Hill University Theatre Arts Stages "9 to 5"

Mars Hill, NC (02/20/2025) — The Mars Hill University theatre arts department will present the "9 to 5: The Musical," based on the iconic 1980 film. The production runs February 27-March 2, 2025, at Owen Theatre on the university campus.

"9 to 5: The Musical" features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a book written by Patricia Resnick, based on the screenplay she co-wrote with Colin Higgins. The musical showcases catchy tunes, quick-witted humor, and an unforgettable cast in a hilarious and powerful tribute to female empowerment, workplace shenanigans, and the relentless fight for equality. Join Violet, Judy, and Doralee as they turn the tables on their outdated boss and show that when women come together, there are no limits to what they can achieve.

The production is directed by Chelsey Gaddy and choreographed by Amanda Hoyte, with musical direction by Kenneth Eggert; all three are members of the theatre arts faculty. The main cast features student performers Ivy Brooks, Jordan Speece, Blaine Hovis, and Nathaniel Ogden. Other talented cast members include Seabron Echols, Fernanda Guerrero, Aero Seagle, and many others. Other members of the production team are Briana McFalls as wardrobe lead, Nathan Thompson on sound board operation, Brooks Harris on lighting operation, and Sasha Wallace as stage manager.

The show is recommended for ages 13 and up, as it contains adult content. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 27, through Saturday, March 1, and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 2:30 p.m.
