New Member Joins Mars Hill University Trustee Board

Retired Simpsonville Businessman Joins Board of His Alma Mater

Mars Hill, NC (01/14/2025) — Mars Hill University announces Cornell Sweeney of Simpsonville, South Carolina, has joined its board of trustees. Sweeney, a 1978 graduate of the university, began his four-year term on January 1, 2025. Sweeney recently retired as an agent and business owner with Allstate Insurance Company.

Trustees Amanda Beatty of Stanley, North Carolina; Julian Cuthbertson of Huntersville, North Carolina; and Marilyn "Que" Tucker of Morrisville, North Carolina, are beginning their second consecutive terms, while Carole Martin of Asheville, North Carolina; Ruth Parham of Kingsport, Tennessee; Charles Trammell of Memphis, Tennessee; and Jim Wilson of Greensboro, North Carolina, are returning to board service.

Mars Hill University's board of trustees is the governing body of the institution, responsible for approving all major policy decisions, adopting the university's budget, and ruling on other major matters of university business. It delegates operation of the university to the president, who serves as the official liaison between the university and the board. The board currently comprises 32 members serving staggered four-year terms.
