Weizenblatt Gallery Presents Pete Candler's "A Realism of Absences" Exhibition

Exhibit at Mars Hill University Runs February 12-March 9

Mars Hill, NC (02/11/2025) — Mars Hill University's Weizenblatt Gallery will showcase Asheville photographer Pete Candler's work in the "A Realism of Absences" exhibition. Candler works in black and white film photography as well as words on a page, documenting his travels in the American South over the past 25 years. He looks for the cracks in the accepted versions of American history. Within the cracks, he finds a richer and fuller version of this country's story.

Candler's work has appeared in many national media, including the Los Angeles Review of Books, the Chicago Tribune, the Washington Post, and others. He has a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Cambridge. He has published two photography collections: "The Road to Unforgetting: Detours in the American South 1997 - 2022" and "A Deeper South: The Beauty, Mystery, and Sorrow of the Southern Road." He lives with his family in Asheville.

The exhibition will run from Wednesday, February 12, through Thursday, March 9, 2025. A reception date will be published at a later date.

Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday, closed weekends. Weizenblatt Gallery is in the Moore Fine Art Building on Cascade Street. Admission is always free.
